Paris Region: Beauty capital of the world

PARIS REGION: BEAUTY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
At the centre of the global beauty markets

An exceptional concentration of head offices, R&D centres, manufacturing sites, the distribution networks of the world’s biggest companies... Paris Region is the worldwide centre of excellence for business development in the cosmetics sector.

The cosmetics industry is a key sector of the European economy.

Furthermore, Europe is the world’s number one market, representing approximately ¤63 billion. Within the European market, France - boosted by the dynamism of its businesses and prestigious brands - is one of the leading countries, with more than 17% of the market. As the world’s leading exporter of cosmetics and perfumes, France exported ¤3.8 billion outside the European Union in 2006, more than Germany (¤2.1 billion) and the United Kingdom (¤1.1 billion) together. France is also the world’s leading cosmetics manufacturer and represents a huge consumer market.

Paris Region: High performance sectors

PARIS REGION IS EUROPE’S MOST COMPETITIVE REGION

Each year Paris Region ranks among the world’s top destinations for international business locations.
The region is thoroughly cosmopolitan in its outlook, creating wealth and generating innovations – it has all the human, geographic, technological and cultural assets required to ensure that European investment projects are a success.
In particular the region boasts a highly skilled population: senior executives and high-level academic professions account for almost 30% of the working population.
Paris Region is a leading European education hub: its 17 universities and internationally renowned “Grandes Écoles” for engineering and management educate 600,000 students a year. And so it is no coincidence that the region also represents the highest concentration of R&D in Europe: with 136,000 researchers and technicians (i.e. 7.6% of the R&D capability of the Europe of 25) and annual R&D expenditure totalling €14.5 billion.
